Shard half full as new tenants announced
THE SHARD in London has announced a slate of new tenants meaning it is now half full.
The new occupants for the country’s tallest building include broadcasters Al Jazeera, intellectual property lawyers Mathys & Squire and energy company South Hook Gas.
They will be joined by venture capital group Foresight and the world’s largest hospital group, HCA. In all, 170,000 sq ft of office space have been let in the skyscraper.
Irvine Sellar, Vice Chairman of REM, and Michael Baker Chief Executive Officer of REM commented, “Following its one year anniversary we are proud to say that The Shard has become not only a celebrated part of London’s skyline but also a popular business, tourist and dining destination”.
It was recently announced that News UK had signed a deal to move from Wapping to The Place, which sits next to the Shard in the London Bridge Quarter development. 600,000 sq ft of space has so far been let across the whole estate.
It’s also been confirmed that the Shangri-La hotel in the Shard will open in May 2014.
