A MAJORITY of Londoners think that the Shard has improved their city’s skyline, a new survey shows.

The poll by Yougov shows that 57% of respondents believe that the eye catching tower has improved the way London looks.

Only 21% were of the opinion it had made the cityscape less attractive.

The 300-metre tall skyscraper was the tallest building in Europe when it was built and has close to 600,000 sq ft of office space. Construction of the Renzo Piano-designed tower was completed in the summer of 2012.

Londoners also believe that 30 St Mary Axe, commonly referred to as the Gherkin, has enhanced London’s skyline with 52% for it and 29% against. It’s been a fixture in the London skyline for 11 years, having been completed in 2003.

But they are yet to be convinced by the new “Walkie Talkie” building in Fenchurch Street with only 25% saying it had improved the view and 36% taking the opposite opinion.
